Fluor provided construction services for this 630-megawatt solid-fueled electric generating plant south of Kansas City. La Cygne Unit 2 was the first Fluor construction project for Kansas City Power & Light Company and Kansas Gas & Electric Company.

Solution
Fluor provided a complete range of services to support construction, including construction cost and scheduling analyses, bid requisitions, subcontract administration, quality control, project controls and administration, site management, field engineering, and craft labor supervision.

To perform the work, Fluor negotiated a unique closed-shop, direct-hire project agreement with the local building trades. At construction peak, nearly 1,500 personnel were employed.
Conclusion
Despite extended delays in structural steel deliveries, Fluor completed the project on time and within budget by using multiple construction shifts. Commercial operation began after a 48-month schedule.
